Apollo Bay Cable Station and Museum

Our History

     The Apollo Bay Cable Station was established to provide the first telecommunication (voice) link with Tasmania.

Stamps, issued at the time marked this event by featuring Amphitrite, the goddess of the sea, holding the submarine cable stretched out across Bass Strait.

On Display

Our extensive collections cover a wide range of artifacts from various time periods of our past, from the ancient shores of Bass Strait to local shipwrecks and the building of the Great Ocean Road.

Bookings and events

Group bookings (no minimum) are available mid week subject to volunteer availability.  

A booking fee applies together with normal admission fee
